About Me
Patrick Doyon is an Academy Award nominated director based in Montreal, Canada. Its first professional film Sunday (2011), produced by National Film Board of Canada, garnered honours on the international festival circuit as well as being nominated for an Oscar for best animated short in 2012 and winning a Jutra in this category the same year. He studied graphic design at Université du Québec à Montréal and since 2005, he is sharing his time between illustration and animation. Many of his works and collaborations have been awarded in various competitions : Art Directors Club, Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, 3x3 ProShow and Grafika have all highlighted the quality of his artwork. In 2015, he received the prestigious Governor General Literary Award for his first children’s book The Sandwich Thief (published by Chronicle Books). In Spring 2017, Patrick presented his first video installation titled GRRR (Georges Rémi, Relu & Remixé) at the gallery La Bande Vidéo in Quebec City. This exhibition was screened in some places in Quebec and got selected at the 12th edition of Arte Lagunal Prize in Venice. While continuing his artistic practice, he is teaching at the UQAM School of Design and devotes time to mentoring emerging illustrators and filmmakers in specific occasions.

Patrick est un artiste originaire du Lac St-Jean, établi à Montréal depuis plus de 20 ans. Titulaire d'un baccalauréat en design graphique de l'École de Design de l'UQAM, son premier film professionnel Dimanche (2011), qu’il a scénarisé, animé et réalisé, a recueilli plusieurs honneurs sur le circuit international des festivals en plus d'être nommé pour l'Oscar® du meilleur animé court en 2012 et de remporter un Jutra la même année. Depuis la fin de ses études, il partage son temps entre l’illustration et l’animation. Plusieurs de ses oeuvres et collaborations ont reçu des récompenses dans divers concours : Art Directors Club, Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, 3x3 et Grafika ont tous souligné la qualité de son travail. Son livre illustré Le Voleur de Sandwichs (publié chez La Pastèque) a remporté le Prix littéraire du Gouverneur Général, le Prix des Incorruptibles en France, en plus d’être finaliste pour le Prix TD de la littérature pour l’enfance en 2015. Au printemps 2017, Patrick a présenté sa première installation vidéo intitulée GRRR (Georges Rémi, Relu & Remixé) à la galerie La Bande Vidéo à Québec. L'exposition fut reprise à quelques endroits au Québec, en plus d'être sélectionnée à la 12e édition du prestigieux concours Arte Laguna Prize présentée à l'Arsenal de Venice. Tout en continuant sa pratique artistique, il consacre du temps à l'enseignement en tant que chargé de cours à l'École de Design de l'UQAM et au mentorat avec des illustrateurs/trices et cinéastes de la relève.
