Sam Chou is an award-winning series creator and director who hails from Ottawa, Canada. He graduated from Algonquin College’s animation program and now calls Toronto home. Before his films gained recognition at prestigious festivals like TIFF and Sundance, Sam worked as a traditional animator on prominent feature films such as Osmosis Jones (WB) and Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights.

In 2014, Sam co-created and directed the web series Crime: The Animated Series, which premiered at both Sundance and TIFF. It was awarded Best Series for Adults at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF). In the same year, he collaborated with Mattel to produce the short film titled HE-Man: First Snowfall, which was showcased at the Fantasia International Film Festival in 2017.

Sam’s most recent project, VRDLK: Family of Vurdulak, premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival and won both the Best Animated Short at FilmQuest and the Audience Choice Award at Lusca Fantastic Film Festival.

In 2023, Sam received the Kaj Pindal Award from the Toronto Animated Arts Festival International (TAAFI), an award is given to honor an individual who makes a lasting impression and uplift the world of animation through their work

He currently serves as the Creative Director of Development at Look Mom! Productions, where he leads the creative development slate for the production company.
